Remember the excitement of the weeks leading up to the first day of school? Shopping for clothes and school supplies, new lunch boxes, meeting your new teachers were all part of the process. The anticipation of seeing old friends and making new friends consumed our thoughts.
My how things have changed! Decisions in 2020 will involve which method of schooling to use, online or in person. Our children will be looking for colorful or creative masks to wear and learn to adjust to daily temperature checks and sitting further away from their classmates. Every hand will be crystal clean with countless hand washing throughout each day. If they choose online, they will continue to learn to practice discipline and to not be distracted by the pleasures of home.
The lessons our children learn during this time will last them a lifetime. They will learn by watching us, the adults in their lives. How are we handling the challenges of 2020? They will notice if we are part of the problem or part of the solution. They will pay close attention to how we follow the rules. They will make mental notes on our levels of patience and acts toward our neighbors and strangers on the street. They will watch us adjust, and in turn, they will learn how to adjust. The lessons they will learn during this extremely difficult period will be priceless.
We fondly remember the good old days leading up to the first day of school and everything our parents did to prepare us. At this time, we would like to say thank you, good luck and stay positive to all of the parents in the Quartz Family who are getting their children ready for the first day of School in 2020. We’ll be rooting for you and we’ll all be watching with anticipation the lessons this new generation learns.
